How under desk wireless charging works
Under desk charging uses the same Qi inductive coupling as a standard pad. The transmitter coil in the desk-mounted unit generates an alternating magnetic field, and the receiver coil inside the phone converts that field back into power. Because the field has to cross the surface board, the practical transmission distance is roughly 10–30mm: thin veneers and laminates charge at full speed, while thicker slabs deliver a slower rate. Alignment also determines speed, since the phone’s coil needs to sit over the transmitter coil, which is why installers mark the charging spot on the surface. These systems also include foreign object detection (FOD): if a metal object such as a coin, key or loose screw ends up between the coil and the phone, the charger detects the energy loss and stops transmitting rather than heating the object up.

Which phones work with under desk chargers
Under desk chargers are built around the Qi standard, so they work with virtually every modern phone: iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and most other current devices, plus Qi-enabled earbud cases. MagSafe iPhones align themselves thanks to the magnet ring inside the phone, while non-MagSafe phones simply need to be placed over the marked coil position, so coil placement matters more than brand. Two device types are worth flagging up front: large tablets generally do not charge on under desk units, because their receiver coil sits toward the middle of the device and the surface gap weakens the coupling; and devices with metal bodies or thick metal-plated cases may not charge at all, since the case blocks the field.

You have three mounting options, and the right one depends on the furniture. Screw-mounted models add a fixing plate or bracket, hold firmly on textured undersides, and are the choice for permanent installs.
